| | | Amazon.com: Mozart didn't write very many symphonies in his last, most mature period, for the simple reason that the opportunities for performance were very limited. The piano concerto was his true medium, and anyone looking for masterpieces along the lines of his last six symphonies among the earlier works will be disappointed. This doesn't mean, however, that the music is anything less than entertaining, and that's just the aspect that Sir Charles Mackerras highlights in these fizzy performances. --David Hurwitz |
